Amid other countries opting for fewer working days per week for the betterment of their working population’s physical and mental health, Indian organisations
and startups- seemingly- are moving towards the opposite direction. Social media is full of incidents and even deaths that speak volumes about the increasing culture of ‘poor work-life balance’ and ‘toxic work culture’ in the country. However, companies are still- quite boldly- asking their employees to work all day, every day- in the name of ‘hustle’. Or so can be said based on this job hiring post going viral, which left netizens fuming. Taking to social media, a man shared the job hiring questionnaire he came across on LinkedIn. As per the post, the company was asking the candidates if they were comfortable working for ‘12 hours per day and 6 days per week’- ‘without any ifs and buts’. Most chastised the company, while the rest highlighted the importance of the need for the government to introduce better labour laws. Many also questioned the misuse of labour laws in India. “Would you be comfortable with (12 hours a day, 6 days a week) culture from office without if's & but's? It is similar to SF tech culture work hard, fast growth. 12 hours a day, 6 days a week is common*,” one of the questions read. Times Now could not confirm the authenticity of the post. “Found this gem of a job opening on LinkedIn,” a user said. “While we fight for more work life balance, companies like this are moving in the exact opposite direction. If this is the norm in **, then please pay us also salaries equivalent to ** salaries and give us offices that justify us working for 72 hours ‘without ifs and buts’. This one was truly hilarious. I don’t even want to check their Glassdoor page,” the post further read. The video was shared on Reddit, by the handle ‘ghoshstories1512’. The post was shared yesterday and pulled more than 1K views from people. Check out the viral post: ALSO READ: After Proposing To His Partner, Man Proposes To Her Puppy Too– Internet Is Moved! Hey, can you be d*mb enough to fall into this trap? So the boss can buy a new BMW ?” asked another. “Candidate: What do you want from me in exchange for salary? Company: Your Soul,” commented another. “They take Yes for desperate candidates, nobody in their right mind is gonna say Yes,” added another. “I'm not Indian or from India (American) but this sub keeps popping up on my feed and it's been really fascinating reading about the differences and similarities of our work cultures. American work culture is pretty unbalanced compared to alot of other countries and it seems like that's kind of how it is in India too. Are 12 hour days/6 days a week pretty standard in a lot of professions over there or is this unusual?” asked another. ALSO READ: Here’s How It Sounds When An Old Oak Tree Creaks!
