The Bengaluru Police have issued a public advisory against an unauthorised social media call by the “Cockroach Janta Party Karnataka” to gather at Town
Hall on May 24. Officials said no permission has been granted. The press note cites High Court orders, stating that protests are allowed only at Freedom Park and urging people not to assemble or share the message. The press note issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City stated, “It has come to notice that a post has been circulated on social media under the heading ‘COCKROACH JANATA PARTY KARNATAKA,’ in which an invitation has been given to gather in large numbers in front of Town Hall on 24th May 2026 for the purpose of forming a ‘peaceful human chain.’ Through this notice, it is hereby informed that no application has been received from any individual, organisation, or political party seeking permission to conduct the above-mentioned program near Town Hall, and no official permission has been granted in this regard. Further, no permission has been obtained from the GBA office for the use of the said location for the program.” The press note further stated that, as per the order of the Karnataka High Court, protests and rallies are not permitted at places other than Freedom Park. It said, “Therefore, people assembling in front of Town Hall in violation of this order would amount to a clear breach of the Hon’ble Court’s directions.” The press note concluded, stating, “Hence, the public is advised not to knowingly or unknowingly forward or share the said message through social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Twitter, and not to gather near Town Hall.”
“Cockroach Janta Party,” a satirical political party founded by Abhijeet Dipke, a former AAP worker, has created a storm online. Since then, several variations of the original party have emerged on social media. The main party was formed in response to remarks made by the Chief Justice of India, where he referred to “unemployed” youth as “cockroaches.” However, although the CJI later clarified that his remarks were misquoted, the party had already been formed by then.
