Bengaluru: Bengaluru's road infrastructure and traffic management woes have once again gained attention after a Reddit user listed out expanses of a techie
and how much he was paying in taxes but getting no return in ease of living, dubbing the city's crippling road infrastructure as a new tax. Mentioning that 'traffic is the new tax', the Reddit user listed out in detail the earnings and contribution to taxes of a techie, saying, "An Oracle employee lives in JP Nagar. His office is on Outer Ring Road. He earns Rs 28 lakhs a year (RSU not included). On that, he pays Rs 6.5 lakhs in income tax. Another Rs 1.4 lakhs in GST on everyday expenses. Together, that’s more than three months of his work each year — just for the country. His office is 14 kilometers away. It should actually take 30 minutes. But in reality, it takes 90. Add the time lost in traffic — 2.5 months a year."
Continuing further, the Reddit user said, "The first two taxes were meant to build something — better roads, smoother commutes, smarter cities. But planning went wrong. The money often went elsewhere."
"Ending up paying the hidden tax, not even having time to look back and introspect. Are you also paying the tax? Let me know in the comments," the Reddit user concluded.
