Delhi may witness a drastic change in weather for the next few hours as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has recently issued a Red Alert for the national
capital for ‘severe thunderstorms with lightning’ for today, Monday– August 10. Reportedly, the city may also witness strong winds with speeds of 60 to 80 kmph. The warning comes after a day that mostly went dry, as Delhi mostly witnessed cloudy skies on Sunday, August 09. The region may continue to see a downpour on Tuesday as well, August 11- as the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for ‘moderate rain’. As per IMD, Delhi will witness a maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius, and a minimum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius tomorrow. It has further forecasted ‘Light to Moderate Rainfall’ for Tuesday morning to afternoon and ‘Very Light to Light Rainfall’ for evening and night. No alert has been issued for the rest of the week so far. Citizens are advised to remain cautious and stay indoors, particularly in view of how several parts of the city were left crippled by severe waterlogging and partial flooding following heavy rainfall across parts of Delhi-NCR over the past few weeks. Several videos of waterlogged roads and rain-related accidents have also emerged, further raising concerns among residents and commuters. According to meteorologists, the ongoing monsoon conditions are responsible for the persistent rainfall across Delhi. The IMD has stated that this weather pattern is likely to continue, with forecasts suggesting that similar conditions could persist through the weekend. However, despite the continuous and heavy rain in Delhi, the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) has remained within the 'satisfactory' category, recorded at 71 this morning. The IMD has advised residents to stay informed about weather updates and air quality, especially for vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.
