Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday admitted that Russia is going through a "difficult period", however he expressed confidence that the country
would overcome its challenges, ensure national security and continue strengthening its borders, according to Russian state news agency TASS. The Russian President, while peaking at the conference of the ruling United Russia party ahead of parliamentary elections, stated that the hardships faced by the country had made it stronger and provided valuable lessons. "We are going through a difficult period, but it has taught us much," Putin said and wished the United Russia party success in the upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for September.
Putin Vows To Overcome Challenges
Stating that the government was aware of the challenges confronting the country, Putin assured that the government is taking steps to address them. "Yes, we see the problems, we are aware of them and are responding to them, but we will certainly ensure the security of both the country and our citizens, as well as the inviolability of Russia's borders," he said.The Russian President also vowed that Russia would overcome the threats and said, "We will undoubtedly overcome all the challenges facing us today, including terrorist attacks on our territory and infrastructure facilities."
Putin's remarks come as Russia is facing Ukrainian drone and missile strikes. In addition to this, Moscow is also hit by Western sanctions imposed over the war in Ukraine.

Ukraine launched a heavy drone assault on Russia, setting fire to a major oil refinery in the south and killing at least two people, Russian authorities said Sunday. Kyiv has reportedly stepped up its long-range attacks on Russian military industries and energy facilities in recent months, aiming to cut Moscow's revenue for its invasion."Tonight, our long-range sanctions reached two oil refineries in Russia," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on the Telegram messaging app on Sunday. "Each (strike) means a reduction in the resources that fuel the Russian war machine, and another step toward peace."
