Considering the dip in temperature and prevailing cold wave conditions in Bihar, the Patna district administration has announced school holiday again.
The District Magistrate Tyagarajan S.M. ordered school holiday (both government and private schools) for children below Class 1 until January 16. The schools are now expected to reopen on January 19. Following the official order, students studying in Play School, Nursery, LKG, and UKG will not have to go to the classes during this period. School timing revised The order also states that classes from Class 1 onwards will begin only at 9AM. It specifies that the special courses and examinations related to the matriculation exam will continue as scheduled. The holiday and change in timings have been announced with consideration for the health and safety of young children. Over the past several days, temperatures have continued to fall, with extreme cold conditions prevailing particularly during the early morning and evening hours. Officials emphasised that the measure is purely precautionary and aimed at preventing seasonal illnesses, such as colds, coughs, and fevers, among young children. Parents welcomed the decision, saying that sending young children to school in extreme cold could affect their health. Teachers also supported the move, adding that shorter school hours help maintain studies while keeping students safe. The district administration said the situation will be reviewed on a regular basis. If the cold wave worsens, the closure may be extended, while better weather could lead to changes in school timings. At present, the order applies only to Patna district, and children below Class 1 will stay at home until January 16. Earlier, schools for Classes 1 to 5 were closed till January 13 due to cold.
