Parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand experienced heavy rainfall on September 16 (Tuesday) which has led to some destruction in these hilly areas.
Heavy rains were observed in areas such as Shimla and Dehradun, which is causing anxiety among students and parents on whether schools will be open today. As of now, school holiday has been announced for Dehradun in schools and anganwadis. "According to the Meteorological Center, Dehradun, heavy rainfall is forecasted in Nainital district. In view of this, a holiday has been declared in the district today, September 16, that is, Tuesday, for all Anganwadi centers along with schools from class 1 to 12th," Uttarakhand Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) has stated in an official tweet on microblogging platform, 'X' (earlier known as Twitter). However, as of now, there is no official update on whether schools will be closed in Himachal Pradesh or not. There has not been any official notice from the district administrations of these districts. So, for now, students and parents should assume that classes will be held as scheduled. However, parents should contact schools individually too, to ensure they have the latest update. Meanwhile, schools have also been closed in Maharashtra's Beed district today (September 16). This decision has been taken due to heavy rains and flooding in the area, an official said on Monday. However, students and parents should note that schools will be closed only for Classes 1 to 7, and not for all classes and colleges. Due to heavy rainfall causing rivers to flow above the danger level, the district administration has ordered the closure of anganwadis, primary, and middle schools on Tuesday as a precaution. An orange alert was issued for Beed and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, while a yellow alert was sounded for Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv, Parbhani, Hingoli, and Jalna for Monday.
