A Bengaluru professor's body was retrieved from a more than 1200 feet deep valley of King George View Point cliff, Matheran, located near Navi Mumbai on
Sunday (October 19). The man, identified as Shanmuga S Balasubramian was also a motivational singer, according to a TOI report. The man came to Matheran to deliver a lecture for the management team of a company, but was last seen on the CCTV camera leaving the hotel on the morning of October 15. Following the reports of his body being found, Balasubramanian's family members and a few company personnel have reached the hill station. The police, according to a TOI report, said that he had not been intimidated about his Matheran visit to the company in advance. Later, after he skipped the event, the company started inquiring about the 58-year-old professor. A few tribals alerted the police after they saw a body there on Saturday. Later, a team of 17 rescuers, joined by the police, climbed using ropes and wrapped the professor's body in a stretcher to pull him out of the valley.
Accidental skid or suicide?
The police said that it is not clear whether it was an accidental skid during morning trek or a case of suicide, since they noticed the railing intact at the view point stretch.
The professor sustained multiple injuries during the fall, the police said, according to TOI, adding that further investigation is on.
