Delhi is likely to remain cloudy on Sunday (August 9) with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting another spell of rain in the national
capital. However, there is some relief for Delhi residents as no major rainfall warning has been issued for the city today. According to the latest IMD forecast, Delhi may receive very light rain from the early morning to the forenoon. Another spell of very light to light rain is possible towards the evening. The sky is expected to remain generally cloudy through the day.
No Major Rain Alert For Delhi Today
The intensity of rain in Delhi is expected to decrease compared with the heavy showers seen over the past few days. While there is a possibility of rain on August 9, the capital is not under a major rainfall warning today.
Delhi has witnessed several days of heavy rain, leading to waterlogging, traffic problems, and disruptions across parts of the National Capital Region. On Saturday, the Safdarjung weather station recorded 98.7 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am, making it Delhi’s wettest August day in two years.
The city has also crossed its normal August rainfall mark in just the first eight days of the month. Safdarjung recorded 230.1 mm of rainfall during this period, compared with the normal monthly rainfall of 233.1 mm.
For Sunday, the weather department expects temperatures to rise slightly as rainfall activity reduces. Residents should still keep an eye on local weather updates, especially during the morning and evening when rain is likely.
While Delhi may not face a major rain alert today, other parts of the country remain under warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall. IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over parts of the Western Himalayan region, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during the week.
