Mumbai Marina Project: The Centre has announced Rs 887 crore fund for a world-class marina in Mumbai Harbour to promote coastal shipping, maritime tourism
and waterfront development in India’s financial capital. The Mumbai Marina project, officially known as ‘Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina’, is being seen as Modi government's push for blue economy.
About Mumbai Marina Project
The project spread across nearly 12 hectares of water area in Mumbai Harbour will have the capacity to berth 424 yachts of up to 30 metres in length, making it one of the major such facilities in the country. The Rs 887-crore worth project will be funded by the Mumbai Port Authority (Rs 470 crore) which will be responsible for developing core marine infrastructure and remaining Rs 417 crore will be invested by a private operator, who will develop the onshore facilities.
Tenders for this project has already been floated and bids are scheduled to close on December 29, 2025.
Key Attractions of Mumbai Marina Project
The marine component of the project will include an approach trestle, a piled breakwater, service platforms, pontoons and gangways to support safe yacht operations. On land, the private developer will construct a marina terminal, the Namo Bharat International Sailing School, a maritime tourism development centre, along with hotel and clubhouse facilities. The onshore infrastructure will also include a skill development centre and facilities for yacht repair and stacking.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the marina will “create world-class infrastructure, open the waterfront for public use, encourage private investment and generate new employment opportunities”.

According to news agency PTI, the project is expected to generate more than 2,000 jobs across marina operations, hospitality, cruise services and related sectors.
The marina project is aligned with several national initiatives, including Maritime India Vision 2030, Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, the Sagarmala Programme and the Cruise Bharat Mission, reinforcing Mumbai’s position as a key maritime and tourism hub.
