Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing Industries of India Chirag Paswan addressed the ET Now Global Business Summit (GBS) 2026 on Friday, where he hailed
the India-US interim trade deal and assured that the interests of farmers will never be compromised. During his address, Paswan assured that not only had farmers' interests been taken care of in the deal, but the government was also working towards strengthening the agriculture sector. The assurance came as the Opposition raised questions over the interim trade framework, claiming that it was "anti-farmer." "India is one of the fastest-growing economies. That means we are doing something right. Our policies are often challenged, but under my prime minister, we are answering every question and allaying every fear. Even with the India-US deal, multiple attempts are being made to spread rumours about agriculture and dairy. Will our prime minister compromise the interests of our farmers? This has not happened and will never happen. We are trying to make sure how much we can bring them into an organised sector and other ways to strengthen the farmers' interests by backward linkages and FPOs," said Paswan. He also discussed how India is a huge market which was now seeing enthusiasm from manufacturers as well. "My Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking every attempt to achieve our goal of a Viksit Bharat. Stability is a big factor for our country. For the same person to be elected as PM three times is not a usual thing. One Finance Minister has presented the budget nine consecutive times. This showcases the stability in policy. This is what attracts investors as well. We are moving forward with a lot of positive energy," Paswan said.
