What is the story about?
Around 50 young women had a narrow escape after a fire broke out at a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Bengaluru’s Nandini Layout on Sunday night. The
fire reportedly started in an LED banner shop on the ground floor and quickly spread to the nearby building where the PG was located. Within minutes, the flames covered the building, leaving little time for residents to react. With no safe exit, several women jumped from the upper floors of the four-storey building to save their lives. Videos of the incident have gone viral, showing panic and chaos at the scene. Officials said that no deaths or serious injuries were reported. They added that the quick action by residents helped avoid a major tragedy, according to NDTV report.
Fire brigade teams reached the spot and managed to bring the fire under control. An investigation is now underway to find out the exact cause of the fire and how it spread so fast. The incident has again raised concerns about fire safety in PG accommodations in the city, especially those located close to shops and commercial spaces. Authorities are yet to announce any action against the building owners.
