Bengaluru: Twocollege students were severely injured by stray dogs on Tuesday in Bengaluru, said a city civic body official. The two victims were rushed
to a nearby hospital for immediate medical care. According to the officials, the incident occurred inside the Jnanabharathi campus, near Kengeri. The police have identified the students as Sujanya G J from Haveri and Rega Nikshitha from Telangana, both pursuing Integrated MSc in Economics at Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics, situated inside the Jnanabharathi campus. Suralkar Vikas Kishor, Special Commissioner, Health and Sanitation Department, BBMP confirmed that the students were admitted to a nearby private hospital with dog bite injuries. "They are fine now. But I am not very sure of the exact details of the case. We are awaiting a detailed veterinary report," said Kishor, reported PTI. This comes weeks after a 68-year-old man was allegedly mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs. The BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials on Tuesday said the incident came to light when some passersby reported that a man was lying on the ground, injured. Prior to that, two children were hospitalised after they developed symptoms of rabies following dog bites. Activists and local residents in Bengaluru are pressing for the formation and implementation of a stray management policy. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has directed the authorities in Delhi-NCR to remove stray dogs from all localities and place them in dedicated shelters. The decision has opposed the directive of the top court, calling it “unscientific” and “infeasible”.
