Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will introduce the extension of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme to students of Classes 6 to 8 on September
22 in Chennai. The scheme, intended to improve students' nutritional status and ensure they come to school satiated and able to concentrate fully on their education, will now cater to 15.30 lakh students in 15,454 schools. According to ANI, the decision was taken at a review meeting led by the CM at the Secretariat on Friday (September 18) regarding the implementation of the expanded scheme in all government and government-aided schools. An additional Rs 217.63 crore has been earmarked for the expansion, taking the total allocation to Rs 724 crore. The scheme will be implemented through integrated kitchens in 447 schools under the Greater Chennai Corporation and in 2,150 schools in other corporations and municipalities by the Directorate of Municipal Administration. In 12,857 rural schools, food will be prepared on the school premises by self-help group members through the Tamil Nadu Women Development Corporation. The CM has directed officials to ensure that kitchen and serving areas are kept sanitary and that the food served to students is “hot, tasty and nutritious.”
West Bengal CM Announces Expansion Of Mid-Day Meal To 1 Lakh Students
On Thursday, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said that improved-quality midday meals under the PM POSHAN scheme will be expanded to one lakh students from October 1. A total of 45,000 students are currently benefiting from the improved-quality midday meals.
Taking to the microblogging site ‘X’, he stressed that the state government is dedicated to ensuring ‘high-quality, balanced and nutritious food in a hygienic environment’ for all students.
