What are the Polling Timings in Assam?
Polling will begin early in the morning across the state’s diverse landscape, from the tea gardens of Upper Assam to the riverine areas of Lower Assam.
- Start Time: 7:00 AM
- End Time: 6:00 PM
Pro Tip: If you are already in the queue by 6:00 PM, the ECI rules state that you must be allowed to vote, even if the process lasts beyond the official closing time.
How to Locate Your Polling Booth Online
If you are unsure where to go, the ECI provides a digital "Booth Locator" to save your time.
- Visit the official portal: voters.eci.gov.in or use the Voter Helpline App.
- Navigate to the ‘Know Your Polling Station’ section.
- Enter your EPIC Number (Voter ID card number) and state.

Documents Required: Can You Vote Without a Voter ID?
While the physical Voter ID (EPIC) is important, you can still cast your vote if your name is present in the electoral roll. You must carry one of the following 12 government-approved photo ID proofs:

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Vote at the Booth
If this is your first time voting or you need a refresher, here is the official process:
- First Polling Officer: Will check your name on the voter list and verify your ID proof.
- Second Polling Officer: Will mark your finger with indelible ink, give you a signed slip, and take your signature in a register.
- Third Polling Officer: Will take the slip and authorise you to go to the voting compartment.
- The EVM & VVPAT: Press the blue button next to the candidate or symbol of your choice on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). A red light will glow, and a beep will sound. Verify your choice on the VVPAT window, where a slip showing the candidate’s serial number, name, and symbol will be visible for 7 seconds.
