In a significant move that impacts you and your banking needs-banks will remain open on Sunday, September 27. The aim is to facilitate customer transactions
ahead of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30. According to a Press Information Bureau (PIB) release, public sector banks and regional rural banks will function normally on Sunday, September 27, 2026, ahead of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30. The Reserve Bank of India has also approved the operation of bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests on September 27. This means customers will have access to these banking facilities on Sunday before the proposed strike. The Government and bank managements have appealed to the unions to defer the proposed strike and said steps have been taken to help ensure continuity of essential banking services. Customers should check with their respective banks for any service-specific updates during the period. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) called for the three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30 primarily to urge for the implementation of a five-day banking week. While the unions have also raised demands related to the performance-linked incentive scheme and pension-related issues, the key concern remains the 5-day banking week. The proposed strike follows talks between the unions, the government and bank management that have not resulted in a resolution on the key demands. The strike is expected to affect banking operations across the country, although digital banking, ATMs and other alternative channels may continue to remain available to customers.
