At least six people have died after a residential fire tore through a Waldorf home on Sunday morning, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire
Marshal (OSFM). Fire crews were dispatched to the 3000 block of Declaration Court North around 8:40 a.m., following reports of people trapped inside. When they arrived, firefighters were met with heavy flames and thick smoke, prompting an upgrade to a two-alarm response. Photos released by the OSFM showed the home engulfed in flames, with the rear section of the property almost completely destroyed. Multiple surrounding fire departments assisted in tackling the blaze.

Search for More Victims Underway
The OSFM later confirmed that at least two fatalities occurred in the incident, while the search for additional victims remains ongoing. "Our Public Information Officer is on the way to provide updates," the agency said in a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter).
Officials added that heavy machinery will be deployed to help remove debris as part of the investigation. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is also assisting in determining the cause of the fire. No further details about the victims have yet been released.
Authorities have not provided information on the possible cause or origin of the blaze. Standard investigative procedures are being followed, including sifting through debris and interviewing witnesses. The OSFM urged community members to remain clear of the area while recovery and investigative work continues.
