New Delhi: Indian Railways has ordered the cancellation of Mail and Express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations
between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10, citing the possibility of severe traffic congestion around the two stations. The move comes amid planned protests in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, though railway officials have cited traffic concerns and have not confirmed any direct link between the cancellations and the demonstrations. According to a railway order issued on October 9, trains departing from their originating stations after 2 pm on October 9 and scheduled to reach either station between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10 will be cancelled at their starting points. The order, issued by the Railway Ministry's Coaching Directorate, said the decision was taken in view of anticipated heavy traffic congestion in areas surrounding the two stations.
CEC Protests In Delhi Amid Security Measures
The cancellations come amid protests against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over allegations related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. However, railway officials have not confirmed whether the train cancellations are directly linked to the demonstrations.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and the INDIA Bloc parties have been campaigning against the SIR exercise and demanding accountability from the Election Commission. The planned protests have prompted heightened security arrangements in the national capital.
Passengers travelling to or from New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin on October 10 should check the latest train status with Indian Railways before leaving for the station.
