Punjab is grappling with one of the worst floods in decades. Over 1,996 villages across 23 districts, housing 3.87 lakh people, have been impacted. As
of now, the death toll has touched 46, and three people have been reported missing. Amid the ongoing situation, many students and parents are wondering whether the authorities will extend the school holidays or not. As per a latest tweet by the Minister of School Education of Punjab, Harjot Singh Bains, government, private, and aided schools, colleges, and universities in the state will reopen as usual from tomorrow, September 8, 2025. However, if any school or college is affected by floods, the decision to announce a shutdown rests with the concerned district's Deputy Commissioner. Issuing guidelines for school authorities, Minister Bains said, "It will be mandatory for the management of private schools to ensure that the school building and classrooms are completely safe to guarantee the safety of students and teachers."
Due to the severe floods, the Punjab government previously extended the school closures till September 7, 2025.
Will Chandigarh, Himachal Authorities Announce Extension?
Apart from Punjab, schools in Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh were also closed till September 7, 2025. The authorities will shortly announce the reopening or extension of school holidays post-examination of weather conditions.
