The reforms in GST structure demonstrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to the common man and entrepreneurs despite the global turmoil, the BJP
said as it welcomed the complete overhaul of India's tax consumption tax by the all-powerful GST (Goods and Services Tax) Council on Wednesday. The GST revamp brought by the Modi government will bring "huge change and a bundle of happiness" for the common man, The BJP also hit out at the Congress over its criticism of the move. The GST council move has brought all common use items from roti/paratha to hair oil, ice creams and TVs will cost less, while tax incidence on personal health and life insurance will be brought down to nil "Congress party should hold a press conference on #GSTReforms today and tell whether or not this has benefited farmers, families?. Their press conferences make no difference. They abuse some institutions without evidence, talk of "vote chori" without facts, and speak only on television. Congress is becoming like Aam Aadmi Party, more on the television and less on the ground...Congress party has turned into Aam Aadmi Party," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said.
Addressing a press conference, Patra said,"...This is not just a reform, this is a huge change and a bundle of happiness...Modi hai toh mumkin hai!...Those who thought this was impossible, it is time for them to think..."
'GST Reforms Game-changing'
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal described the GST reforms as game-changing and asked the industry to pass on the full benefit to consumers.
"Yesterday's reform in indirect taxes in GST, coming on the back of several initiatives over the last 11 years, is transformational in nature, significantly impacting the pharma sector, significantly impacting so many sectors, right from the farmer until our MSMEs," he said.
