The Supreme Court today heard the petitions filed by the Federation of Indian Medical Association (FAIMA) and United Doctors’ Front (UDF) over the dissolution
of NTA, conducting the re-examination under judicial supervision and setting up a high-powered committee. Weighing in on the issue that affected over 22 lakh aspirants across the country, the top court said, "It's sad that they have not learnt a lesson on NEET paper leak despite several directions." The apex court has also issued notices to the Central Government, NTA, and CBI on a petition filed by the FAIMA and UDF in the NEET-UG 2026 case. It has sought their responses on demands for conducting the re-examination under judicial supervision and constituting a high-powered committee. SC has further asked NTA to file affidavit on compliance of directions suggested by court-appointed monitoring committee in 2024 NEET paper leak matter. Briefing on the arguments put forth in the court, Advocate of petitioner, Tanvi Dubey, on SC order, told PTI, "Today, the matter was heard primarily on behalf of the FAIMA, and I appeared in the case. The main argument put forth was that around 23 lakh students had appeared for this examination, and the exam was cancelled in view of the paper leak. Detailed directions had already been issued by the Supreme Court, and a committee had also been constituted. The committee submitted its recommendations as well. Today, taking all of this into consideration, the Supreme Court issued notices to the NTA and the Ministry of Education and listed the matter for hearing again on Friday. The Supreme Court also stated that they should file an affidavit regarding compliance with the committee’s guidelines and the directions previously issued by the Court in the matter of Vanchika Yadav." The issue was heard by a bench led by Justice P. S. Narasimha, which instructed that copies of the pleas be served on all respondents. As per the Supreme Court Advocate Satyam Singh representing the petitioners, the court will hear further requests about dissolution of NTA and other reforms sought by FAIMA and UDF on May 29, 2026.
