What is the story about?
Tension gripped Mumbai’s Bandra area on Wednesday (May 20) after chaos erupted during an anti-encroachment drive carried out by Western Railway in the
Garib Nagar slum locality. Residents staged protests against the demolition, leading to a confrontation with police at the site. According to sources, some protesters allegedly hurled water and buckets at Mumbai Police officials as tempers flared during the operation. Police later used mild force to disperse the crowd and bring the situation under control. Officials said tensions escalated further after an allegedly illegal madrasa structure was demolished during the drive, triggering anger among sections of local residents.
Heavy police deployment remained in place in the area as authorities restored normalcy. Officials said the crowd has now been dispersed and the situation is currently under control.
