What started as a solo backpacking trip turned into a transformative journey for a British architect, whose six-month exploration across India is now capturing
attention online. Through his viral Instagram video, the traveller, identified as Jack, shared how the experience reshaped both his perspective and professional understanding of architecture. In a video titled “6 months Solo backpacking India. Verdict,” Jack reflected on his journey, revealing that he arrived in the country with little more than essentials and curiosity. According to him, the trip went far beyond expectations, offering insights he had only previously encountered in textbooks. "Six months travelling solo across India. It hasn't all been perfect. There have been long bus rides, language barriers, missed plans, exhaustion, and days where everything felt harder than expected. But it's been deeply enriching," Jack wrote. Describing his fascination with India’s architectural heritage, he pointed to places like Hampi, where he experienced firsthand the artistry he had long studied. He explained how being physically present in such historic spaces brought a new dimension to his learning. "I came here for the architecture; to see with my own eyes the places I'd studied for years, the drawings that once lived only on paper. And standing in cities like Hampi, walking temple streets, tracing carvings with my hands, those moments made every difficult day worth it. Architecture here isn't quiet. It's layered. Crowded. Alive with history and belief," said Jack. Encouraging others who may be hesitant about travelling to India, Jack emphasised that the challenges were part of what made the experience meaningful. He further said, "Six months in, I have no doubt in my mind that coming here was the right decision. Not because it was easy. But because it was worth it. Because travel like this changes how you see the world and how you see yourself moving through it."
