Mumbai: Central Railway has temporarily suspended the sale of platform tickets at 13 major stations, including key hubs in Mumbai, to manage the expected
surge in passenger footfall during Mahaparinirvan Diwas. The measure is aimed at ensuring smooth crowd flow and safer boarding and deboarding across some of the busiest stations in the zone.
Mumbai Local: Sales Suspended from 5 to 7 December
The suspension will remain in effect between 5 and 7 December 2025, with exceptions made only for passengers who require assistance. As per Railway Board guidelines, platform tickets will still be issued to:- Senior citizens
- Ailing passengers
- Children
- Lady passengers
- Persons unable to fend for themselves
Central Railway said the move is essential in anticipation of heavy rush, urging passengers to plan travel accordingly.
13 Stations Where Platform Tickets Are Stopped
The temporary restriction applies to the following major stations:
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Dec 5–7)
- Dadar (Dec 5–7)
- Bhusaval (Dec 5–6)
- Nashik Road (Dec 5–6)
- Manmad (Dec 5–6)
- Jalgaon (Dec 5–6)
- Akola (Dec 5–6)
- Shegaon (Dec 5–6)
- Pachora (Dec 5–6)
- Badnera (Dec 5–6)
- Malkapur (Dec 5–6)
- Chalisgaon (Dec 5–6)
- Nagpur (Dec 5–6)
In a statement, Dr Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, said, “Central Railway has imposed temporary restriction on sale of platform tickets at 13 major stations in anticipation of heavy rush of followers travelling on account of Mahaparinirvan Diwas. Persons accompanying aged persons, senior citizens, ailing persons, children, illiterate persons & lady passengers unable to fend for themselves are exempted from these restrictions to ensure ease of travel.”
