The 14th Prime Minister of India, Narendra Damodardas Modi, has been working towards India’s growth and development for 11 years now. After Congress leader
Jawaharlal Nehru, he is the longest-serving prime minister of India. Under his leadership, India has achieved numerous milestones, including the National Education Policy, Make in India, and Digital India, which can be attributed to his management skills, decision-making, and leadership abilities shaped by his education. Since you all must be curious about his alma maters, let’s take a quick look at his academic qualifications to understand how his early life and studies shaped him. About PM Modi He was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Bombay State, to Damodardas Mulchand Modi and Hiraben Modi. As they came from a lower-middle-class family, his father had a tea stall at the Vadnagar railway station, where Modi, according to him and neighbours, used to work sometimes. PM Modi was just eight years old when he got familiar with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and started attending its training sessions. Graduated from Delhi University's Open School According to media reports, Shri Narendra Modi did his higher secondary education in Vadnagar in 1967. Because of his keen interest in Political Science, he enrolled for a Bachelor’s degree in it from the University of Delhi (School of Open Learning). Later on, he pursued a master’s degree from Gujarat University, securing 62.3 per cent as an external candidate in 1983. “Narendra Damodardas Modi passed his M.A. in Political Science in 1983 with first class, securing 499 out of 800 marks, which comes to 62.3 per cent, as an external student,” Gujarat University’s Vice-Chancellor M.N. Patel told the media. PM Modi's interest in political science from early years is what pushed him towards policy and governance. His leadership skills and understanding of politics are also attributed to his academic training. Ever since Modi became a political sensation, many opposition leaders have taken a jibe at his Bachelor’s degree, calling it fake. To refute the claims, Delhi University in 2016 stepped in, stating the degree is genuine. 'The Degree is Authentic', DU Registrar Confirms "We have checked our records and it has been authenticated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degree is authentic. He cleared the examination in 1978 and was awarded the degree in 1979," said Delhi University's registrar Tarun Das, as per a TOI report. While calling the mention of 1979 as his graduation year a 'minor error', the university claimed that it possesses all relevant records pertaining to his graduation.
