School Holiday Tomorrow: Schools in Bengaluru are currently closed after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered holidays in Karnataka for all government and
government-aided schools. During this break, teachers will finish their duties for the ongoing caste survey, officially known as the Social and Educational Survey. The survey began on September 22, which was supposed to end on October 7. However, delays in some districts forced the government to extend the deadline by 10 more days. “We planned to finish the survey by 7 October. But while some districts are nearly done, others are still behind,” the Chief Minister told the press.
- For example, Koppal district has completed 97% of the survey.
- In Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, only 63% and 60% of the work is done.
- In Bengaluru, just 34% of the survey is complete.
Around 6,700 teachers are helping with the survey in Bengaluru alone.
The Karnataka Teachers' Association and Congress MLC Puttanna asked the Chief Minister to give teachers more time to finish the work. The Education Department later declared school holidays after talking with the State Commission for Backward Classes.
