Students of Delhi University's Miranda House are set to hold a solidarity march on September 28 to raise concerns around women's safety and the right to access
public spaces. The march, titled “Hum Auratein Azaad Hai”, will begin from Miranda House and conclude at the Faculty of Arts. According to the organisers, Miranda House students will gather at Gate No. 7 of the college at 2:30 PM, while students from other colleges can join the march at the Faculty of Arts, Gate No. 4, from 3 PM. The organisers have described the event as a student-led solidarity march open to women and queer individuals. They have also clarified that the march is being organised independently by students and has no affiliation with any political party or organisation. Participants have been advised to carry water or ORS, wear comfortable clothing and footwear, and follow instructions issued by organisers and volunteers during the march. The event comes amid a series of student-led initiatives across Delhi University campuses focusing on women's safety and access to public spaces. A similar solidarity march was held across South Delhi on September 25, with students raising concerns over safety, infrastructure, public transport and restrictions on women's movement. DUSU extends support to women’s safety march Separately, the ABVP-led Delhi University Students' Union has announced its support for the “Chalo DU: March for Women Safety”. In a press release issued on September 28, DUSU said the march was being organised at the call of DU students and highlighted women's safety as a concern for the university's student community.
DUSU President Yash Dabas said he supported the march and called for stronger security arrangements on campus and in areas frequented by women students. He also said that students' safety concerns should be addressed through coordinated efforts by the university administration and the state government.
DUSU Secretary Riya Chhawri said women's safety should remain among the university's priorities. She called for measures including adequate lighting, CCTV surveillance, regular security patrols and a system for prompt grievance redressal on and around the campus.
The DUSU statement comes separately from the Miranda House organisers' declaration that their march is independently student-organised and not affiliated with any political party or organisation.
The September 28 march is expected to bring together students from Miranda House and other Delhi University colleges, with the organisers framing it as a space for collective expression and solidarity around women's safety and access to public spaces.
