Iran on Friday reacted sharply to the newly signed defence agreement between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, with an Iranian lawmaker warning Riyadh
that relying on security partnerships with other countries would not guarantee its safety. Iranian MP Ebrahim Rezaei said Saudi Arabia should not expect a “paper agreement” with Türkiye and Pakistan to provide security, drawing a comparison with Riyadh’s longstanding ties with the United States. "Saudis must know that a paper agreement with Türkiye and Pakistan will not bring them security, just as years of one-sided nursing to the Americans did not bring them security,” Rezaei said. He further urged Saudi Arabia to reconsider its foreign policy and build its security around its own regional interests rather than depending on external powers. "Reform your policies so that you do not need to beg for security from others," he added. Rezaei's remarks came after Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan signed a defence agreement on Friday aimed at strengthening military cooperation amid heightened security concerns in the region.
