What is the story about?
A crude bomb explosion in a rented room in Kolkata's Rajarhat area on Saturday evening has sparked a major NIA probe. The explosion took place inside a ground
floor room in South Narayanpur's Southpara area. As per the police, the room had reently been rented by a man identified as Mohammad Shamim, a resident of Kamarhati.
As per the police, the house was owned by Zulfikar Ali and the rental arrangement had been arranged by a broker named Shahensha.
The explosion left one person injured. As per the police, the explosion may have been caused by a 'sutli' bomb, a type of crude explosive commonly used in parts of West Bengal.
The police have detained three people so far.
Residents told investigators that two men arrived at the house carrying a bag and entered the rented room shortly before the explosion. Moments later, a loud blast rocked the area, damaging the rented room and two adjoining rooms. One person sustained injuries in the incident and was taken for treatment.
Police teams rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.
Police are now examining the identities and backgrounds of the people who had access to the premises, as well as the purpose for which the explosives were allegedly being stored.
An NIA team visited the site and is expected to prepare a report based on material recovered from the premises.
