Delhi woke up to a cloudy sky and light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) placing the national capital
under a yellow alert for the day. The weather office has forecast generally cloudy skies with moderate rain throughout July 29. Light to moderate rainfall is expected during the morning, forenoon, afternoon, evening and night. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 23 degrees Celsius. Humidity is expected to remain high, ranging between 90 and 100 per cent. The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rainfall on Thursday, July 30. Weather conditions are expected to improve from July 31 onwards, with only light rain or drizzle predicted and no weather warning currently in place through August 3. The forecast comes a day after heavy rainfall caused widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions across several parts of Delhi. Areas including Connaught Place, Janpath, Rajendra Nagar, Sadar Bazar, ITO, Kalindi Kunj, Azadpur, Malviya Nagar and Ghazipur witnessed severe waterlogging on Tuesday, affecting commuters, businesses and students. In Sadar Bazar, schoolchildren were seen wading through flooded streets as rainwater inundated roads and entered nearby shops. Waterlogging was also reported in Connaught Place, where several commercial establishments were affected after rainwater entered market areas. Rajendra Nagar, one of Delhi's major coaching hubs, also witnessed severe flooding, while traffic moved slowly on several arterial roads, including NH-9 near the Ghazipur border, ITO and Mathura Road. More than 100 complaints related to waterlogging, fallen trees and power outages were received by civic agencies, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the Public Works Department (PWD). Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious while travelling, expect traffic delays in low-lying areas and follow weather advisories issued by the IMD as rain is likely to continue through the day.
