Delhi has been experiencing a record-breaking winter, with temperatures falling to chilly levels this year. Amid thick fog and a cold wave, the schools
in Delhi are slated to reopen today, January 16, 2026. Many students and parents are wondering if the authorities will provide an extension, considering the rough weather. According to the Directorate of Education (DoE), Government of NCT of Delhi's official calendar, the government schools in Delhi were ordered to remain shut from January 1 to 15, 2026, since the low visibility and freezing temperature made it harder for students to commute. With the holidays coming to an end now, many are posing questions related to the reopening of schools in Delhi, as the city battles cold weather. Has an Extension been Provided? As of now, the authorities have not announced an extension of Delhi winter vacations. If and when an official confirmation arrives, we will let you know. Meanwhile, private schools have been exercising their discretion in announcing school holidays. Many have been conducting physical and online classes, which infuriated the students as well as parents, who started demanding action from the concerned authorities in the form of closure. Moderate temperature. Chilly winds may aggravate cold at time. Cold is tolerable but mild health concern for vulnerable people. Do not ignore shivering. It is the first sign that the body is losing heat. Get indoors.
Action Suggested (Jan 15)
Avoid prolonged exposure to cold. Wear several layers of loose fitting, light weight, warm woollen clothing rather than one layer of heavy cloth. Cover your head, neck, hands and toes adequately as majority of heat loss occurs through these body parts.
