The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday announced a protest in Bengaluru on October 8, with the group planning to participate in a "People’s Tribunal"
on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and hold a "chappal protest" in solidarity with women journalists, who alleged sexual harrassment against Delhi Police while protesting against the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar in the national capital. CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka announced that the outfit will be attending the People’s Tribunal on SIR at the Freedom Park in Bengaluru from 10:30 am onwards on Thursday. "Action packed Thurs for Bengaluru! Freedom Park, 10:30 AM onwards," Ranka said, adding that the group would attend the People’s Tribunal on SIR and interact with Kannadigas who, according to the post, have been "wrongfully removed" from the voters' list.
The programme will then be followed by what Ranka described as a “Chappal protest” in solidarity with our women. “Look forward to seeing you all in large numbers!” Ranka said.
Sharing Ranka's post, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke also shared a brief message: “See on Oct 8, Bengaluru!”
The announcement comes amid the ongoing political and public debate over SIR and allegations surrounding the deletion or exclusion of voters from electoral rolls. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has maintained that the revision process is aimed at ensuring accurate electoral rolls.
