Speedway, the popular convenience store and gas station chain, has become the latest company to draw criticism from conservative circles after a video
went viral, allegedly showing a Minnesota gas station refusing service to US Border Patrol agents. The footage, widely shared on X by MAGA figures including Nick Sortor and Cam Higby, shows agents, including Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino, walking away from a Speedway location on Portland Avenue in Hennepin County, near Minneapolis. In the video, a person who allegedly works at the Speedway outlet is asked whether service was denied to the agents and appears to respond affirmatively. “We do not support ICE,” the individual can be heard saying. Bovino was also asked whether denying service to federal agents was legal, though he did not respond directly on camera.

The clip quickly spread across social media, prompting sharp reactions from conservative commentators. Nick Sortor wrote, “A Speedway near Minneapolis just KICKED OUT Commander Bovino and his crew as they went in for snacks. Hey Speedway, is it your policy to DENY service to federal law enforcement officers? You’re going to end up getting Bud Lighted. FIX THIS!”
Cam Higby added, “Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino DENIED SERVICE at Speedway on Portland Avenue. I asked the Commander if this is illegal, and the cashier said ‘I DON’T CARE IF IT IS’.” Turning Point USA’s Andrew Kolvet also questioned whether denying service to federal law enforcement officers is an official Speedway policy.
The incident comes at a sensitive moment in Minnesota, where tensions are already high following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by ICE agent Jonathan Ross. Protests have erupted across the state, and the Trump administration has responded by sending additional federal agents to Minnesota.
The controversy follows a recent backlash against a Hilton-affiliated hotel that allegedly refused service to ICE agents, a situation that ultimately led Hilton to drop the property from its franchise after social media outrage.
So far, Speedway has not publicly announced any action in response to the incident, though online criticism continues to grow.
Who Owns Speedway?
Speedway is owned by 7-Eleven. The convenience store chain was acquired by 7-Eleven for $21 billion from Marathon Petroleum Corp. in May 2021, making Speedway a subsidiary of Seven & i Holdings. The acquisition significantly expanded 7-Eleven’s footprint across the Midwest and East Coast.
