Signing the ‘contract of employment’ does not equate to agreeing to willingly give away one’s ‘soul’ to the employers. The money that employees get from
their organisations is not for free- it’s the return of the work they do and the time they give to the company. With that said, it makes sense why employees not JUST get their salaries- but they also enjoy other perks and initiatives, as just ‘providing salary on time’ is not a favour. All in all, policies and their existence have a reason. Most companies in India have been following a similar set of policies and allowances for ages. However, based on this Delhi man’s calculations- maybe all companies need an update! Taking to social media, an HR seemingly in a Delhi office shared a ‘weird’ interaction they had with a candidate. As per the HR’s Reddit post, the candidate ‘genuinely’ asked for a ‘rain allowance’. The HR shared that they met the candidate recently and began the screening. On being asked about the candidate's expectations, he asked for ‘allowance’ that he will need during the rainy season or on the days it will rain. As per the candidate, his Ola/Uber rides- which are also his means of office commute- cause him increased expense during rainy days. The candidate then asked the HR as well if they had also experienced the same- which ended up making the interviewer realise that the candidate was correct. Taking to social media, the HR shared how a ‘rain allowance’ made sense for a place like Delhi, Mumbai or other such states, where rain can often result in delayed traffic, raised vehicle expenses and more. The man allegedly also gave an option of working from home on rainy days, if a financial allowance is not on the table. As soon as the post was shared online, it went viral and left netizens reacting. Most sided with the candidate. Times Now could not confirm the authenticity of the post. “Candidate’s weird ask during interview sounds reasonable now,” the post read. “I met an applicant yesterday and I screened him. When asked about his expectations, he said he needs ‘Rain Allowance’, and I was confused. He explained, he needs extra pay for the monsoon months. I told him there's no such policy, and why he is asking for that. He said he uses ola/uber to come to office and their fare goes rocket high, when there's rain or water clogged on roads, He even gave me some alt. either he needs work from home on rainy days, or he should be allowed to come late,” the post further read. “I thought he wasn't interested and asked him if he's really interested, he said yes he's interested but that's essential as he calculated his last month's travel expense and it's just double because it was raining heavily in July. And to prove his point he even asked me, if i use uber/ola to come to the office, i said ‘yes’, and he said you can try calculating your expense and compare it to normally other months. He was respectful throughout though and sounded genuine,” added the post. “Well, after the screening, I literally checked my balances, the guy was right, I spent the normal monthly fare within 15 days in July, because it rained heavily here and just this morning when I booked the ride it was showing 20 rupees more than double the daily fare. As it rained yesterday night in Delhi/NCR,” the post concluded. ALSO READ: From ‘Petrol Ki Chori’ To ‘Petrol Se Chori’- Viral Video Shows Man Opening Lock Using Fuel! WFH during rains is a nominal ask if you don't reimburse cab fares,” a user said. “Give him WFH for rainy days. He is being reasonable,” added a second person in the comment section. “It is new but fair. And ideally if WFH is possible then during bad weather days it should be accepted by the company. More WFH means less traffic on the road, less jams and more energy in people/employees,” added a third person. “So very true, I use ola/uber/rapido and their fares are way too high during rains. Any type of compensation or WFH during rains should be provided,” added a fourth netizen. “You are asking the wrong question about his interest.. This is quite a serious issue,” added another.
