After a brief relief in the beginning days of November, air quality in Delhi has once again slipped on Thursday (November 6), with the capital's overall
Air Quality Index (AQI) rising to 264, putting it in the "poor" category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Moreover, Delhi's Bawana recorded the worst AQI in the city as it slipped to "very poor" (337) at 8 am. Delhi people woke up to a thick blanket of smog across the city, with five stations recording "very poor" air quality today.

Apart from five stations recording "very poor" air quality in Delhi, other 33 stations recorded "poor" air quality on Thursday.

This comes just a day after Delhi recorded its best November air quality in five years on Wednesday (Nov 5) due to high winds and clear skies. In 2020, a lower AQI of 137 was recorded on November 27. Yesterday, 202 AQI was recorded in the capital.
On Wednesday, only two stations, including Delhi University's North Campus and Shadipur, recorded "very poor" air quality; the rest all the stations were less affected.

Mahesh Palawat, vice-president of Skymet Meteorology, said, "Wind speeds usually drop to nil during the night, but winds of up to 8-10kmph prevailed on Tuesday night. During the day, winds up to 10kmph blew on Wednesday, aiding the dispersion of pollutants," TOI reported.
However, according to the air quality early warning system, this relief was just temporary, as it warned that the air quality in Delhi is likely to be very poor from Thursday to Saturday.
