Kanpur: Two people, including a pilot and a trainee, were killed after a four-seater training aircraft crashed in the Ganga Barrage area of Kanpur on Thursday.
According to Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal, the deceased included the pilot and the trainee. An official said the incident occurred at around 11:50 am, with the victims reportedly from Gujarat and Karnataka. The aircraft was a four-seater plane, and the instructor reportedly had around 3,000 hours of flying experience. The crash occurred in a protected area, according to officials. Police and rescue teams reached the spot following the incident, while further details about the cause of the crash are awaited.
Jharkhand Air Ambulance Crash
Meanwhile, in a separate aircraft accident earlier this year, seven people were killed after a Beechcraft King Air C90A air ambulance crashed in Jharkhand’s Chatra district on February 23. The aircraft, operated by Redbird Airways, had taken off from Ranchi for New Delhi when it lost communication and radar contact after reportedly requesting a deviation due to bad weather. It crashed in a forested area near Kasiyatu village in Simariya block. Those killed included two pilots, two medical personnel, a patient who was being flown to Delhi for further treatment, and two attendants. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) subsequently initiated a probe into the crash.
Baramati Aircraft Crash
In another major aircraft accident earlier this year in January, five people, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, were killed after a Learjet 45 charter aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Baramati Airport on January 28. The aircraft, operated by VSR Ventures, was flying from Mumbai to Baramati with two crew members and three passengers on board.
The aircraft crashed near the airport during its approach and caught fire, killing all five people on board. The other victims included Pawar’s personal security officer, a flight attendant, and the two pilots. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) subsequently launched a probe into the crash, with its preliminary findings examining factors including the aircraft’s approach and conditions at the airport.
