Sterling High School in Baytown, Texas, briefly went into lockdown Wednesday morning after a fight between two students escalated into a stabbing that
left one teen hospitalized, according to Baytown police and Goose Creek CISD. Officers were dispatched just before 10:40 a.m. to reports of a stabbing on campus, where they found a student suffering from at least one stab wound. The injured student was taken by EMS to a local hospital; district officials said the student required medical attention but did not immediately specify the severity of the injuries. The teen later succumbed to injuries. The second student involved remained on campus and was quickly contained by staff and school police. In an 11:32 a.m. message posted to the Goose Creek CISD emergency updates page, the district said Sterling High was placed on a “hold” following “a fight on campus involving two students,” adding that “one student required medical attention” and that “the parents of both students have been notified.” The statement emphasized that the situation “was addressed promptly” and that the hold had been lifted, with “no current threat to students and staff on campus.” Classes resumed under heightened supervision as Baytown Police Department investigators began interviewing witnesses and reviewing any available surveillance video. (This is a developing situation.)
