What is the story about?
Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Friday took a dig at the Election Commission of India (ECI) after it assigned the “Envelope” election symbol to the TMC
group headed by Ritabrata Banerjee. Reacting to poll body's decision restricting the use of the TMC's name and symbol for the upcoming bypolls in West Bengal, CJP co-convenor Saurav Das said that the “jokes just write themselves”. Taking to X, Das wrote, “‘Envelope’ symbol for TMC defectors. Envelope mein bharr ke kya aaya tha? The jokes just write themselves in this country.”
TMC Name-Symbol Freeze By Election Commission
In an interim order on Thursday, the Election Commission barred both factions of the Trinamool Congress, led by former Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee, from using the party's name, All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), or its 'Jora Phool' (Flowers with Grass) symbol in the upcoming Nandigram and Rejinagar bypolls, scheduled to be held on October 6.Following the interim order, the Election Commission allotted separate names and symbols to both the rival camps. The Mamata Banerjee-led faction was allotted the name "Mamata All India Trinamool Congress" and the "Football Player" symbol. Meanwhile, the rival faction was allotted the name "Democratic Trinamool Congress" and the "Envelope" symbol.
