Students in Ranchi staged a ‘silent procession’ on Tuesday (August 11) evening under the banner of JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch to protest alleged irregularities
in state recruitment tests. The procession, organised as part of the students’ protest that entered its 18th day on Tuesday, was held from Jaipal Singh Stadium to Albert Ekka Chowk, as reported by PTI. Since July 25, students and job aspirants in Jharkhand have been staging demonstrations to seek transparency in recruitment examinations, reforms in the functioning of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), cancellation of several examinations and an independent probe by the CBI or a panel of retired high court judges from outside the state. Six protesters have sat on an indefinite hunger strike, with two of them hospitalised. The sixth round of discussion between the state government and protesting students ended in an impasse on Sunday, with both accusing each other of taking the issue lightly.
Over 8.5K Suggestions on Exam Reforms Received: CM Soren
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday said that over 8,500 suggestions on examination reforms have been received from students under a government campaign, and promised to make the exam system more “accountable and transparent.”
In a recent social media post, he said the examination amendment process would be carried through public participation, adding that realising the dreams of the youth was the government's responsibility.
"We are keen to build a transparent, secure and accountable examination system for the present and future generations," Soren said in a post on X.
More than 8,500 youth have shared their suggestions pertaining to improvement in the examination system under the 'Chhatro ki Baat, Chhatro ke Sath' campaign.
"From OMR to exam calendars, scorecards, question papers, transparency in the examination process, better use of technology, and several important suggestions related to necessary and essential reforms within the constitutional framework in both commissions, including the JPSC, have reached us," Soren said.
He added that these recommendations will help make the future of lakhs of the state’s youth better.
"The reforms will not be the sole effort of the state government. The reforms would be driven by the public participation of my young friends of Jharkhand," he said, according to the news agency.
CM’s remarks come at a time when thousands are agitating against purported exam irregularities in Jharkhand.
