A high-paying job sure sounds great; however, more money does not always mean more happiness. Or so is what can be said based on this young Delhi techie's
mental struggles. Taking to social media, the man- allegedly a software engineer- shared about his deteriorating mental health due to extreme work pressure and workplace toxicity. The man allegedly has a high-paying job that he was able to secure with just ‘1+ year of experience’; ‘Rs 30 LPA salary’. However, despite the short years of experience, the overworked employee has already developed issues like “frequent headaches, mental breakdowns, and constant burnout” at a young age. The man further ranted about how his office does not have a ‘Work From Home’ policy, and how the employees often work on festivals as well. Sick leaves are also not wholeheartedly welcomed by the management, leaving him second-guessing his career choices. Further turning to the netizens, the man began to ask them for advice and suggestions. The poor employee allegedly wants to leave his current job, however, due to a not so thriving ‘current market situation’, the man is struggling in finding other offers. He also expressed his worries about quitting from such a high paying role to nothing at all- in case he fails to find another job opportunity on time. The techie’s post went viral on social media, leaving netizens reacting. Most found his situation ‘relatable’, while some advised him to prioritise his mental health. Times Now could not confirm the authenticity of the post.

“My high tech job is causing problems that I can’t bear anymore,” the post read.
“Hey everyone, I work at a major tech company in Delhi NCR, with a total annual compensation of around 30 LPA. I have 1+ years of experience in software engineering, mostly backend. Since the day I started, I’ve been struggling with severe anxiety. A year in, it has worsened — I now face frequent headaches, mental breakdowns, and constant burnout at a young age. The work pressure is extreme, we need to often work long on major indian festivals due to business needs. Sick leave usually just means ‘work from home while sick.’ No hybrid policy — it’s 5 days a week in a highly toxic environment. All of this is taking a serious toll on my mental health,” the post further read.
“This post is not about salary discussion, it’s about how I want my present and future to turn out to be. I’ve been applying to multiple companies via LinkedIn, but the current market situation hasn’t been kind — I haven’t had much luck. I also don’t want to relocate far from NCR, which limits my options further. I sometimes feel like just quitting without another offer lined up. But going from a stable, high salary to zero income is daunting, even though I have no major financial responsibilities right now. The fear of not finding another role — especially when I see people with more experience struggling — makes me hesitate,” the post continued.
“My question is: Should I push through and stay until I gain more experience, or is it wiser to step away now to protect my mental health, even if it means taking a career break?” it concluded.
