New Delhi: The government has again increased the fuel prices for the fourth time in two weeks. Diesel prices have been hiked by Rs 2.71 per litre, while
the petrol rates have been increased by Rs 2.61 per litre. With this increase, petrol has crossed 100-mark in Delhi. As per new rates, diesel will be retailed at Rs 95.20 per litre and petrol at Rs 102.12 in the national capital. On Saturday, petrol got costlier by Rs 87 paise per litre and diesel by Rs 91 paise The government hiked the fuel prices for the first time on May 15 after the start of the US-Iran war on February 28. Fuel rates were first increased by Rs 3 per litre on May 15, followed by another hike of around 90 paise on May 19. Fuel got costlier for the third time on Saturday. With this latest revision, the petrol and diesel prices have gone up by nearly Rs 8 in total. State-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) had abandoned the daily price revision in April 2022 to insulate domestic consumers from a steep price increase that was warranted because of international oil prices shooting through the roof post Russia's invasion of Ukraine. But the war in West Asia has again sent international oil prices soaring by over 50 per cent.
The latest increase is expected to add to the burden on commuters, transport operators and businesses across sectors.
