The flood situation in Odisha continues to remain serious, with six districts now affected amid further alert of a heavy downpour. According to the latest
information, a total of 66 blocks across six districts have been impacted by floodwaters. Among the affected districts, Mayurbhanj has reported the highest number of affected blocks at 22, followed by Kendujhar with 13 blocks and Balasore with 12 blocks. Jajpur has reported flooding in 10 blocks, while five blocks in Kendrapara and four blocks in Bhadrak have also been affected. The scale of the flooding can be gauged from the fact that water has entered 1,304 villages across 448 gram panchayats. Apart from rural areas, the situation has also affected urban regions, with 64 wards across 10 urban areas reported to be under the impact of floodwaters.
Nearly 8 Lakh Affected Due To Floods
Overall, around 7.85 lakh people have been affected by the current flood situation across the six districts.
With water levels rising in several areas, the administration has stepped up evacuation efforts. So far, around 2.77 lakh people have been shifted to safer and higher locations to protect them from the rising floodwaters.
Rescue and relief operations have also been intensified across the affected districts. A large number of emergency response teams have been deployed on the ground.
As part of the preparedness and rescue operation, 39 ODRAF teams, seven NDRF teams and 53 fire services teams have been deployed in different flood-affected areas.
Evacuation, Rescue Ops Continue
The teams are engaged in evacuation, rescue operations and other emergency measures, while district administrations are closely monitoring the situation.
The priority at present is to ensure the safety of people living in vulnerable and low-lying areas and move them to safer locations before the situation worsens.
With thousands of villages and lakhs of people affected, the coming hours remain crucial for Odisha. Authorities are maintaining close coordination with rescue agencies and local administrations to respond to any emergency.
The administration has urged people in vulnerable areas to follow official advisories and cooperate with evacuation teams whenever required.
