The US tech giant Oracle layoffs employees in an early-morning email sent on Tuesday saying the company decided to eliminate their roles as part of a “broader
organisational change”. Signed “Oracle Leadership”, the mail said the company decided to eliminate their roles, and told employees that the day they received the email would be their last working day. The layoffs began with some employees losing access to Oracle’s systems before the email arrived. Federated logins reportedly stopped working around 4 am (local time), followed by employees being disconnected from Slack between about 5 am and 5:30 am. In March, the tech giant had fired nearly 20,000 and 30,000 employees globally, and reportedly had plans for a new round of job cuts to reduce payroll. The US tech giant was said to be preparing for another round of job cuts, with September 1 emerging as a key date. Managers were asked to identify roles that could be eliminated, raising fears that workers could wake up to the same dreaded early-morning layoff emails that arrived during Oracle’s March cuts.
