Kolkata Metro: Kolkata, known for having India’s first metro service, continues to expand its network with the upcoming Yellow Line, also referred to as
the Line 6 of the Kolkata Metro. This line will significantly improve connectivity between important parts of the city, reducing travel time and easing congestion on the roads.
Kolkata Metro Yellow Line: Route and Connectivity
The Kolkata Metro Yellow Line will run between Kavi Subhash (New Garia) in the south and Biman Bandar (Kolkata Airport) in the north. This 29.87 km corridor will pass through several important residential and commercial hubs, making it a crucial link for daily commuters.
Kolkata Metro Yellow Line: Major Stations
The Yellow Line will have 24 stations in total, including key stops such as Kavi Subhash, Salt Lake, New Town, City Centre II, and finally, the Airport terminal station. These stations are strategically placed to serve both office-goers and airport passengers, giving them a fast and reliable alternative to road travel.
Importance of the Yellow Line
One of the biggest advantages of this line is that it will directly connect the city centre and the eastern IT hub of Salt Lake with Kolkata Airport, which is currently only accessible by road. The metro line is expected to reduce traffic congestion, cut travel time, and offer commuters a smooth and eco-friendly journey.
Kolkata Metro Yellow Line: Current Status
Construction work on several stretches of the line is already in progress. Once fully operational, the Yellow Line will be one of the longest metro corridors in Kolkata, strengthening the city’s urban transport system and making airport connectivity seamless.
