A major recall involving Trader Joe's products has expanded nationwide, with nearly 10 million pounds of frozen food pulled from shelves over concerns
of glass contamination. According to the US Food and Drug Administration, Ajimoto Foods North America Inc. recalled 9,885,240 pounds of Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice after reports that small shards of glass were found inside the one-pound packages. The fragments were described as measuring between 1 to 3 centimeters in length and 2 to 4 millimeters in width. The recall is part of a larger food safety action that has now impacted nearly 37 million pounds of ready-to-eat items across 16 brands, including popular names like Kroger and Tai Pei.

The affected Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice products were sold across 43 states, with best-by dates ranging from February 28, 2026, to November 19, 2026.
The seven states not impacted by the recall are Hawaii, Maine, New Mexico, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Iowa.
The recall also includes additional items such as Trader Joe’s Chicken Shu Mai (chicken and vegetable dumplings with soy sauce) and Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice, which contains stir-fried rice, vegetables, eggs, and seasoned dark meat chicken. These products have best-by dates between February 28, 2026, and August 19, 2027.

Officials said the issue was traced back to a vegetable ingredient, with carrots identified as the likely source of the contamination.
The recall was initially issued on February 19 and later expanded on March 3, before growing further to include the latest batch of products.
Health authorities have warned that some of the affected items could still be in consumers’ freezers. While no injuries have been reported so far, the FDA has advised anyone experiencing concerns to contact a healthcare provider.
Customers are strongly urged not to consume the recalled products and instead discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
