In a major boost to Delhi-NCR tourism, the Yamuna River has finally got its much-awaited river cruise! Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected the national
capital’s first-ever ‘Namo Yamuna River Safari’ on Monday, October 26. Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra also accompanied her during the inspection. According to the Delhi CM, the government is planning to inaugurate the ‘Namo Yamuna River Safari’ before the Chhath Puja festival, which will be celebrated from November 13 to November 16. “We are planning to inaugurate this before the Chhath Puja festival. This will be a special experience for the people of Delhi. Just as people in other cities find peace while cruising along holy rivers like the Ganga, people will experience the same peace while cruising on the Yamuna. People will be able to visit the Yamuna, and families will come here,” CM Rekha Gupta said. The CM further stated that the site would be developed as a “picnic spot”. She described the project as a “huge achievement” for the people of Delhi and congratulated them on the initiative. She also extended her congratulations to the Central government. “The spot is being developed as a picnic spot. This is a huge achievement for the people of Delhi, which will give them a lot of joy. I want to congratulate the Central government, Delhi, and the people of Delhi. The government that people vote for is working tirelessly for the city,” she added.

Just a few days ago, on October 18, a grand Yamuna cleanliness drive was also conducted at Haathi Ghat near ITO. The Delhi CM and Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma had participated in the drive.
Much like Gujarat’s Sabarmati Riverfront, the Yamuna is also all set to get a makeover in the coming times. According to Verma, the administration is in the process of signing an MoU with the Sabarmati Riverfront authorities.
The Yamuna Riverfront will reportedly be built in ‘2 phases’, with ‘Palla-Wazirabad’ planned as ‘Phase 1’ and ‘Wazirabad-Kalindi Kunj’ as ‘Phase 2’.
Verma further claimed that, “if things go as planned”, the “model of the riverfront” will be ready before the “next elections”. “If everything goes as per plan, then before next elections, we will be able to see a model of the riverfront.”
