New Delhi: After Delhi’s air quality improved to the ‘moderate’ category on Saturday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that air pollution continues
to take a heavy toll on the health and livelihoods of people, particularly children, the elderly, and daily wage workers. The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha described the situation as an ongoing crisis and urged citizens to share how air pollution has affected them and those around them. In a post on social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha attached a link to a digital form where people can share the issues they faced due to the air pollution. Crores of ordinary Indians bear this burden every day. Children and the elderly suffer the most. Livelihoods, especially of construction workers and daily wage earners are severely impacted. This crisis cannot be forgotten until next winter. The first step towards change is to raise our voices. Share your story of how air pollution has affected you or your loved ones at: https://rahulgandhi.in/awaazbharatki Your voice matters, and it is my duty to raise it."
During the Parliament's winter session in December, when the air pollution was at peak, the LoP had raised the issue, saying that the government and Opposition parties should stop blame game and work collectively for the future of the people.
“Most of our major cities are living under a blanket of poisonous air. Millions of children are getting lung disease. Their future is being destroyed. People are getting cancer. Older people are struggling to breathe. This is an interesting issue because I am certain that there will be full agreement between the government and us on this issue,” the leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said.
Delhi Air 'Qualifies' in Moderate Category After 103 Days
After nearly 103 days, Delhi’s AQI finally reached the ‘moderate’ category on Saturday, marking the city’s cleanest air of the season. The relief comes after Friday’s rain and strong winds cleared dust particles trapped due to stagnant weather conditions.
Even in the most polluted areas of Delhi, AQI levels stayed below 200 today. Measurements included 137 in Alipur, 164 in Ashok Vihar, 153 in Aya Nagar, 143 in Bawana, 149 in Burari, and 189 in Chandni Chowk. Air quality in neighbouring cities also remained moderate, with AQI recorded at 120 in Noida, 167 in Greater Noida, 169 in Ghaziabad, 195 in Gurugram, and 154 in Faridabad.
According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), the last time the capital recorded ‘moderate’ air quality was on October 13, 2025, when the AQI was 189. From October 1 to 13, the city had nine days of moderate air quality, after which pollution levels rose sharply. CREA’s analysis shows that since October 14, Delhi has consistently faced hazardous air pollution, with 26 days classified as ‘poor,’ 66 days as ‘very poor,’ and 10 days as ‘severe.’
