The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati will be conducting the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026. The registration for GATE 2026 will begin
on August 25 and conclude on September 25 (without late fee). The registration and detailed schedule for GATE 2026 is being hosted by IIT Guwahati at gate2026.iitg.ac.in. As per the official schedule, GATE 2026 will be held on February 7, 8, 14 and 15. IIT Guwahati released the GATE 2026 schedule on August 5.

GATE 2026 will have a total of 30 test papers comprising full and sectional papers. This time, a new sectional paper on Energy Science (XE-I) is being introduced in Engineering Science (XE) paper. Candidates should note that a candidate can appear for one or two test papers. Only selected two-paper combinations are allowed for candidates appearing in two papers.
GATE score obtained by the candidate will remain valid for a period of three years from the date of announcement of results.
Candidates who qualify for GATE can seek admission with possible financial assistance to Master's programmes, Direct Doctoral programs and Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Engineering/ Technology/ Science/ Architecture/ Humanities in institutions supported by Ministry of Education (MoE) and other Government agencies. GATE score is also used by some colleges and Institutions for admission to postgraduate programs without MoE scholarship. Several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have also been using GATE score for recruitment.
