Bengaluru: Air travel between Belagavi and two key cities, Bengaluru and New Delhi, is all set to resume from September, BJP MP and former Karnataka Chief
Minister Jagadish Shettar has confirmed. The development follows talks with airline officials and is expected to give a major boost to regional connectivity and economic growth.
Flights to Begin Mid-September
According to Shettar, IndiGo will launch daily flight services connecting Belagavi with New Delhi from 16 September and with Bengaluru from 21 September, as reported by The Hindu. These routes had been operational in the past but were suspended for a period.Shettar stated that the return of these air routes would provide a strong push to local industries, enhance tourism potential, and benefit surrounding districts.
He said, “PM will flag off three new Vande Bharat trains. Among them is the much-awaited Bengaluru–Belagavi Vande Bharat Express, marking the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream for the people of Belagavi,” adding, “On behalf of the people of Belagavi, we express our heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for his prompt and positive response.”
New Vande Bharat Express to Boost Rail Travel Too
The announcement comes just days ahead of the launch of a new Vande Bharat Express train service between Bengaluru and Belagavi, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate on Sunday, 10 August. The train will run six days a week, excluding Wednesdays, starting regular service on 11 August.Shettar described the moment as a “historic milestone” for Belagavi and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister on social media platform X.
IndiGo Expands Presence in Bengaluru
Meanwhile, IndiGo has also begun work on a new Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. The facility is part of the airline’s broader expansion strategy and is expected to significantly boost its operational capabilities by catering to its growing fleet.The combination of restored flight services, a new Vande Bharat train, and a strengthened aviation base signals a transformative phase for Karnataka’s regional infrastructure, particularly for Belagavi and its neighbouring regions.
