Kuala Lumpur, Feb 7 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim received an enthusiastic welcome at an Indian diaspora
event on Saturday, where over 800 dancers performed various traditional Indian dance forms. The event featured a vibrant display of Indian classical and folk dances, including Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Yakshagana, Lavani, and Odisi, celebrating the cultural ties between India and Malaysia.
Arrival and Reception
Modi and Ibrahim arrived at the venue together, greeted by chants of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Modi, Modi' from the crowd. Their joint appearance underscored the camaraderie between the two leaders.During the event, it was announced that the dance performance set a new record in the Malaysian Book of Records for the largest number of performers in an Indian dance performance.
Remarks by Prime Minister Ibrahim
Prime Minister Ibrahim expressed his excitement about Modi's visit, stating, 'I am personally excited to have a great friend from India joining us in Malaysia.' He emphasized the historical connections between the two nations, noting that these ties predate modern diplomatic relations.Ibrahim further remarked, 'India or Bharat is among Malaysia's top trading partners. It is not only goods that move between us, but in 2025, over 1.5 million Indian visitors are expected to come to Malaysia.' He expressed pride in his personal friendship with Modi.
